A Prosperous Life in the Siheyuan with Two Worlds to Cross

Chen Yang, a modern office drone, transmigrates to a Beijing courtyard compound in 1965. He becomes an apprentice at a steel mill, earning 27 yuan a month, and awakens the ability to travel between two worlds, along with a ten-cubic-meter storage space. By day, he handles the scheming of the compound's older residents; by night, he returns to the modern world to stock up on food, buy medicine, and get his hands on tools.

He meets Su Wan, a gifted Peking University student temporarily staying in the compound. Chen Yang helps her through hard times with supplies from the modern world and gives her exam materials so she can return to campus. Making the most of his ability to travel between worlds, Chen Yang rises from apprentice to first-grade fitter. After the reform and opening-up, he builds a restaurant chain and even turns the courtyard compound into a retirement home.

From scraping by on coarse grains to eating meat at every meal, from borrowing a bike to driving a car, Chen Yang takes Su Wan's hand and laughs: “With our two-world travel and storage space, our life in the sixties is even better than life in the modern world!”
