Synopsis

Through a unique lens, this book traces the lives of more than twenty legendary women across three thousand years of Chinese history, from Empress Dowager Xuan, Mi Yue, amid the flames of the Warring States period to the late Qing heroine Qiu Jin, from Wei Zifu deep in the Han palace to Xue Tao in the poetic world of the High Tang. Traditional histories reduced their stories to footnotes to the lives of emperors and ministers, but this book rescues and pieces them together anew, restoring them as a sweeping epic of women’s history.

Power: When Mi Yue held the reins of Qin, she tied a wolf-shaped jade pendant around her young son’s waist, using both iron will and tenderness to lay the foundations of the Qin Empire. As Wu Zetian copied sutras beneath the Buddha lamps at Ganye Temple, her brushstrokes already concealed her ambition to claim the throne. When Dugu Jialuo and Yang Jian stood side by side to found the Sui dynasty, the arrangement known as “Two Saints Ruling Together” had already been foreshadowed in their marriage pact. They danced across the halls of power in a world ruled by men, rewriting history’s game of strategy with their political skill and wisdom.

Love: Zhao Feiyan’s dance on the palm in Zhaoyang Palace was both a seductive offering to Emperor Cheng of Han and a low-born dancer’s struggle against fate. The everyday ritual of “wagering books and spilling tea” shared by Li Qingzhao and Zhao Mingcheng held the spiritual hopes of intellectuals amid a time of chaos. When Dong Xiaowan made Dong candy for Mao Bijiang, the sugar crystals held not only sweetness but also the devotion of a couple weathering troubled times together. These loves and feuds were not merely the tides of private feeling, but reflections of the sweeping currents of their age.

Any Historical Fanfiction Where the Female Lead Is a Beloved Beauty Across Different Dynasties?

The female lead travels to different dynasties, like the Three Kingdoms, Qin, and Tang, becomes the center of everyone's attention, and makes a name for herself or wins people over. Quick transmigration or a single world is fine. Something like the web novel Two Thousand Years of a Poor Man.

Are there any stories where the emperor and his consort are in cahoots and conduct palace intrigue under imperial orders, working together? Ideally, it would be a little funny.
