The protagonist Xu Ling, as a low-level mechanical maintainer, accidentally inserted his own neural interface into the unknown core in order to save his companions during an emergency mission deep into an abandoned temple in the "Rust Abyss" (actually an ancient super AI server group). All instruments were overloaded, an ancient sigh came from the abyss, Xu Ling's prosthetic eyes flashed with an endless stream of data, and a consciousness awakened in his mind.
