Filled with excitement for her brand-new high school life, Emma drifted off to sleep. But when she woke up the next day, she found herself in a dimly lit prison cell. She had no idea why she’d been locked up.
And the prison was on an isolated island, cut off from the rest of the world

A talking owl addressed the thirteen girls who had been brought there.
“You have been deemed highly likely to be [witches]. You pose a threat to human society.”
“Please live here as prisoners.” The ordinary life they had taken for granted crumbled away.
