[A heroine who grows, stands on her own, and puts reason and career first]+ [A non-domineering CEO with a devoted husband vibe, and a guiding approach to love]
The next time Meng Lai saw Meng Wuxi, it was winter.
Dark clouds filled the sky, so thick it felt hard to breathe.
Meng Lai was waiting for a ride outside No. 23 Middle School when a black Passat pulled up in front of her. The passenger window slowly lowered, revealing half a profile.
The driver was the man who had taken Meng Lai home after a friend's birthday party. She smiled at him and said what a coincidence. He smiled back and asked if she needed a lift. He had some free time and could take her part of the way.
Meng Lai raised her hand to check her phone and told him there was no need. The car she'd called would be there in two minutes.
He understood, said goodbye, and drove off.
The person in the passenger seat hadn't looked at her once, from beginning to end.
At a traffic light, the car stopped. Xiang Chennan rested one hand on the steering wheel and twirled a lighter in the other, glancing at the passenger with an amused look. “You know that girl?”
There was no response. Xiang Chennan continued, “I've known you for years. I've been following you around since I could open my eyes, so how come I don't know when you met her? If you don't know her, why did you insist I turn around just to ask if she wanted a ride? Since when have you been so kind, Young Master Meng?”
The light turned green. The man spoke. “If you don't want to drive, get out.”
It's a pretty good short story that creates characters that are unconventional.
Good-looking, good-looking, good-looking
