At an apparently peaceful university, a mysterious “It” descends, awakening old resentments and grudges. The campus is enveloped by eerie rules: triggering one means instant death. Students die in strange ways, and panic spreads. The protagonist, Zheng Mo, was an ordinary student, but this upheaval entwines his fate with those of Lin Yu, Chen Feng, Su Yao, and Zhao Yang. Lin Yu discovers a diary recording how students were bullied and teachers oppressed them years ago, driving them to their deaths in bitterness. He realizes this is the root of everything. To free the dead from their obsessions and restore peace to the campus, the five set out to uncover the truth. But the closer they get, the more bizarre rules appear to stop them, from desks and chairs arranging themselves in an abandoned classroom to a cold voice issuing warnings. They have no special abilities, but they persist in their investigation through trust and courage. Meanwhile, the university conceals the tragedy and misleads them about where to look. As the death toll on campus continues to rise, they face immense time pressure. In the end, they find the key person, unearth the body, uncover the truth, and break the eerie rules. The campus returns to peace, Zheng Mo transforms from someone driven by fear and self-preservation into someone steadfast and brave, and the five become friends who would die for one another.
