On the Canglan Continent, the fates of eight young men and women carrying special bloodlines and magical treasures intertwine. There is the love at first sight between a sword-bone wielder and a spirit root marked with ink, childhood friends who inherit the legacies of Shennong and Luoshui, and a nine-tailed fox and bow spirit who save each other.

Starting from Qi Refining, they face the flames of war between humans and demons, then travel the world in the middle stages of their journey and uncover infighting among humanity. But then the Eternal Night Demon Venerable possesses Li Mingxiu and obtains the World Sword, threatening to create a dark world. In the final battle in the Dark Abyss, the eight will wield the power of their bloodlines and magical treasures to protect Canglan, keeping the "Inkstone" burning bright, never extinguished in the ashes.
