The novel tells the sad history of the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty from a commoner to the founding emperor, as well as the acquaintance, love and support of Zhu Yuanzhang and Empress Ma along the way. There are also the governance of Zhu Yuanzhang's sons and grandsons and the love and hatred in the Ming Dynasty palace.
