"Renqiu" takes Chaling in Hunan as its coordinates and the century-old life of Chen Renqiu and his descendants as its context, unfolding a long scroll of the era in which women's education and intangible inheritance are intertwined.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Chen Renqiu broke through the constraints of ethics and transformed the Women's Red Cross Society into a women's school. He exchanged Hunan embroidery for funds, enlightened the people's wisdom with pen and ink, and sowed the fire of women's pursuit of knowledge on the banks of the Fushui River. She ran the school with the embroidery philosophy of "going with the flow", allowing needlework and books to build hope together. Even in the midst of warlords' melee and war, she led teachers and students to continue classes in caves and keep their minds in troubled times.
As time goes by, this persistence continues among future generations: daughter Chen Nianqiu uses the rigor of a historical researcher to sort out the educational concepts of her ancestors; granddaughter Chen Zhixia activates tradition from a modern perspective and integrates Hunan embroidery stitching into digital design, allowing the spirit of "Lenqiu" to cross national boundaries. From the bluegrass on the embroidered bandages of the Republic of China to the reflective water patterns of contemporary fashion shows, from the enlightenment classes in ancestral halls to the forums of the Global Education Alliance, women's thirst for knowledge, innovation in inheritance, and vitality as flexible and forward as a river of rich water are all in the same line.
The work salvages details from the folds of history and reflects the spirit in the needlework. It not only describes the ups and downs of a family over a century, but also sings the praises of countless women who used perseverance as needles and years as threads to embroider the magnificent epic of the youth of the times.
