The Silent Duet of a Mutual Secret Crush

[Childhood sweethearts] [Bittersweet youth] [Secret school romance] [Beautiful tragedy] [Regret]

[Quiet, reserved Ye Wan x Sunny, cheerful Lin Mu]

Ye Wan and Lin Mu grew up together, from naked toddlers into seventeen-year-old teenagers. They shared the same popsicle, fell in the same alley, and year after year marked their heights on the same plane tree.

They were the most familiar presences in each other's lives, and also each other's most untouchable secret.

Ye Wan's secret crush was like the tart, lingering sweetness of a lime in her diary.

Lin Mu's secret crush was the instinctive favoritism of a boy on the court who only ever looked toward her.

They shared the same long stretch of years and carried the same unspoken secret. They thought there would always be time to slowly read each other the long poem of youth.

Until that summer, when an unsent love letter became an eternal full stop.

"Lin Mu, if... if I'd been just a little braver, would things have turned out differently?"

Afterward, spring never came to Lin Mu's world again. He spent a lifetime turning over and over the grand, complete two-person silent drama called "Ye Wan," rendered voiceless by their matching cowardice.
