However, historically his reforms ended in failure.
The Wang Mang in this story is an ordinary middle-aged man from the 21st century. Under the multiple blows of career failure, marriage breakdown, and debt, he chose to commit suicide. However, in a strange lightning, he traveled back to the late Western Han Dynasty and became Wang Mang in history.
