On July 2, 2025 local time in Europe, the European Space Agency issued a bulletin stating that astronomers observed an object that may come from outside the solar system approaching the sun. On the same day, the International Astronomical Union Minor Planet Center officially confirmed that 3I/Atlas is the third interstellar object confirmed to be discovered by mankind. 3I/Atlas passes through the solar system from the direction of Sagittarius at a speed of 60 kilometers per second. It is expected to reach perihelion on October 29, pass the Earth on December 7, and gradually move away from the solar system in the following years, eventually returning to interstellar space.
