A zombie tale! The shrill clank of taut bronze chains echoed through the depths of the underground palace as nine coffins of different colors were slowly lowered into a deep pit. Each coffin was covered in engraved runes and cast from bronze mixed with cinnabar, gleaming eerily in the torchlight.
"Your Majesty, all nine corpses of the Nine Phases have been placed in their coffins," reported the sorcerer in a dark robe, bowing low.
Qin Shi Huang stood atop a raised platform, his gaze, hidden behind the strings of beads on his crown, as deep as an abyss. He gave a slight nod and watched the workers shovel the last of the soil, mixed with dog blood and realgar, into the pit.
"With heaven and earth as the coffin and the Nine Hells as the prison, will this formation keep the Great Qin realm secure forever?" The emperor's voice echoed through the underground palace.
The sorcerer lowered his head. "The nine corpses correspond to the nine energies of heaven and earth. With the Five Elements and Four Aspects supporting the formation, and the cosmic coffin array as its foundation, it can suppress the dragon veins of the Nine Provinces. Even a thousand years from now, the corpses will not emerge, and their souls will remain imprisoned in the Nine Hells."
Satisfied, Qin Shi Huang waved his hand. A troop of soldiers began covering the leveled pit with heavy stone slabs. No one noticed the runes on one of the scarlet coffins flicker faintly, as if something inside were gently tapping on the coffin walls.
