Bungo Stray Dogs: A Lone Soul Among the Strange

“Home isn’t home, and I’m a little lamb, a little lamb that’s been sold.”

Lambs eat grass. Lambs are timid. A lamb without an owner is bound to be eaten by wolves. That’s the answer everyone knows.

The humans took the little lamb’s wool, leaving it just like them: not a single hair on its smooth face, and smooth skin all over, like a kettle.

The little lamb had become ugly. The only thing that probably hadn’t changed was its pair of shiny black eyes.

The little lamb was thrown out of the pen because its owner didn’t like eating lamb. So it went to an unfamiliar grassland. The place was chaotic, full of werewolves and wolves in sheep’s clothing. The werewolves weren’t the scary ones. The wolves in sheep’s clothing were.

Hungry wolves would always disguise themselves as sheep and steal the little lamb’s grass. Most werewolves bullied the little lamb too, though some would help it. The little lamb was afraid of them, but grateful all the same, not for the food they gave it, but for keeping it company.

“That’s obviously a dog you can’t chase away… How is that a werewolf?”

“But the little lamb is scared of them, isn’t it?”

“I guess so…”

“Now, let’s get back to the story, sweetheart.”

The mother kept telling her story, and her little one fell asleep listening to it.

“Looks like my baby won’t wake up until the sun gets up. We’ll have to continue the story tomorrow night.”
