Me, a Southern Maoist and Northern Ma Clan Exorcist, Working 996 at Bureau 749

From the day Lin Jianlu inherited both the Southern Maoist and Northern Ma tradition, her life set off down a strange and wondrous path. The white snake she saved as a child gave her the spiritual medium powers of a shamanic spirit medium, while an ancient book she picked up in college taught her Maoshan Thunder Arts without a teacher. Then came a string of bizarre incidents, from a mirror spirit demanding lives to a vengeful curse cast by a pen spirit. After she solved the campus mirror-spirit case on her own, the National Institute for Abnormal Phenomena Research No. 749, also known as Bureau 749, came knocking. Accepting the authorities' offer to recruit her, Lin Jianlu took up her homemade snake-bone whip and became a special consultant for Bureau 749. She formed a team with a commander who believed in science and a Taoist hacker who could code. Together, they ventured into the shadows of the modern city to handle one supernatural case after another, each nourished by the desires of the human heart. But as their investigation deepened, a plan called the Artificial Totem Project came to light. Orchestrated by a disgraced Maoshan disciple, it sought to devour the nation's fortune. Lin Jianlu must find the true path to blending the Taoist arts of north and south if she is to protect everything she holds dear.
