Fan Shengmei Blooms Again

An exhausting end to a life turned out to be the cruel yet tender beginning of a new fate. Fan Shengmei collapsed under the crushing weight of life at thirty. When she opened her eyes again, she had returned to the height of summer at twenty-seven.

Shanghai, 2012. Floral wallpaper and an old computer sketched out a starting point that was both familiar and strange. The unweathered face in the mirror reminded her that nothing had been set in stone yet: her father and brother’s demands, the dead end in her career, and the collapse of her romantic life could all still be rewritten.

This time, she was determined to break free of the chains of family coercion and take hold of her own fate. When her mother called again to demand money, she said no for the first time. That refusal became the first line in her new life.

Standing in the rift in time, Fan Shengmei understood that true growth did not mean endlessly compromising. It meant learning to live for herself. Her story was about to be completely rewritten.
