(Give this new writer a little rating with your lucky money hand! This is my first story, and the forms of address in a matriarchal society are so hard to get right. Please bear with me if I make mistakes.) Liu Yu is the illegitimate son of a powerful family. His birth father died young, leaving him bullied by his clan. His family’s head treats him like merchandise and plans to send him as a concubine to an elderly nobleman.
At his most desperate, Fu Jing becomes his only lifeline. A marriage contract is his chance to escape the cage, and a convenient way for her to avoid an arranged marriage imposed by the authorities.
And so, a farmer’s daughter and a fallen young nobleman set off together for home.
Behind her stands the Fu family: poor but warm, and wholly supportive of her studies and ambitions.
Beside him are his wife’s family, unfamiliar but sincere, offering him respect and security.
She devotes herself to the imperial examinations, advancing from scholar to provincial graduate and finally to the palace examination, where she earns third place. With her husband and daughter in tow, she enters the sea of power in the imperial capital.
He manages the household and raises their young daughter, building her the strongest support with his tenderness and perseverance.
The content of the book is very good [like it] There are some places where the names are actually reversed. There are not many emotional lines between the female protagonist and the male protagonist. Most of them write about things in the court, which gave me a very novel feeling. The author has a great style. Sometimes I feel that the female protagonist does not think like modern people in doing things. It is very novel and I recommend everyone to read it. There is very little space to describe the male protagonist, and very little to describe the Fu family, which basically does not appear later.
It's a good-looking book, with feelings about family and country, righteousness in the world, very warm, delicate writing, and a grand layout. It's really good-looking, I couldn't stop, I just finished reading it.
