A story of household and palace intrigue
The hypocritical heir apparent vs. his lovesick “stepsister”
· Heroine · Shen Liuli: An adopted daughter of the Marquis’s household, outwardly a docile, well-behaved dependent who clings to her elder brother. In truth, she’ll stop at nothing to gain power, and harbors an extraordinary possessiveness toward her “brother.”
· Hero · Lu Jinglan: Heir to the Marquis of Zhenbei, outwardly a gentle, refined gentleman who holds himself to strict standards. In truth, he has severe compulsions about cleanliness and control. His love for his “sister” has long since become twisted, yet he must maintain the dignity of an elder brother.
The soup she makes for him contains a secret drug that will leave him dependent on her alone.
The jade hairpin he gives her conceals a delicate chain he made with his own hands.
She smiles as she watches the poison take effect. “Brother, does it hurt?”
He gently wipes the blood from the corner of her mouth. “Liuli, let’s go to hell together.”
