The Little Taoist of Yuntai Temple: Master, You Lack Virtue

At twenty-one, Xuanzi Ye is a young Taoist priest in the modern world who can see “qi.” He looks after the rundown Yuntai Temple on the edge of the city, living with his elderly master, Xuan Qing. He scrolls on his smartphone and muddles through Taoist magic. Most days, he grumbles about the bizarre “fortunes” of the temple’s visitors and dreams of going down the mountain to earn enough money to buy supplements for his master.

But his peaceful life ends when his master passes on and ascends to immortality. His final words, “The Tao must not die out. You must carry on my will and safeguard the peace of our land,” place the immense responsibility of reviving the Taoist tradition and protecting the country on the shoulders of this seemingly carefree young man.

Following his master’s dying wish, he unearths long-lost orthodox teachings of the Mystical School beneath the temple: The Threefold One’s Treatise on the Tao, The Myriad Manifestations’ Mystical Registers, and The Myriad Manifestations’ Mystical Array Compendium. From then on, a hidden dragon emerges from the depths. A simple visit to cancel a household registration brings out his retired military big-shot uncle-master. Rebuilding a temple comes with the full support of his battle-hardened senior brother and a shadowy protector. Only then does he realize that he has inherited more than Taoist arts: his heroic school once burned down its temple and descended the mountain to fight for the country, willingly allowing its teachings to fall into decline!

And so the city gains a most unconventional Taoist priest, Ziye. He uses talismans and arrays to solve all kinds of mysterious events that science cannot explain, earning “consulting fees” with ease and a sense of humor. At the same time, backed by his school, he engages in thrilling battles against foreign evil forces seeking to steal the nation’s fortune. Foiling conspiracies and standing against heavenly might, he will use the ancient arts of the Mystical School to forge his own passionate path of protecting the country and its people in the modern city, bringing the light of the Taoist tradition back to the world!
