Mo Ting was originally the son of a scholarly family in Lin'an. He met the empress due to the introduction of his cousin Shen Yan. Later, the empress made an exception and entered the palace, and was granted the title of "Chang Zai" to live in Yongshou Palace. The story not only depicts Mo Ting's ignorance and adaptation when he first entered the palace - from learning palace rules, getting along with other emperors, to gradually gaining the attention and favor of the empress; it also intersperses the power and emotional entanglements in the palace, such as the illness of Emperor Tong Jia, the concubine's marriage until her death, and the empress's trade-off between government affairs, personal affairs and palace management. The overall plot is cut from Mo Ting's perspective, showing the warmth and alienation, opportunities and challenges in the palace. The rhythm is slow but the delicate emotions are hidden, and it outlines a unique picture of palace life in the era of the empress.
