[Both are devoted to each other + Long-planned romance + A sweet bedtime read]
A taciturn young master who’s all action and secretly a romantic ✘ An honest, cool-headed top student who speaks her mind
Zhou Yanzhi ✘ Lin Xilei
Lin Xilei always thought her marriage to Zhou Yanzhi was a business arrangement with no feelings involved, something they both understood. Until one day...
Remembering a question her friend had asked, she called out to her future husband just before bed. “Zhou Yanzhi.”
Zhou Yanzhi turned to look at her, water glass in hand. “Hmm?”
Lin Xilei asked him directly, without hesitation, “Why did you marry me?”
She didn’t think he was the sort of person to simply obey his family’s wishes.
At least, that was how she saw him.
Zhou Yanzhi looked calm, but his eyes were deep. His voice rang clearly in the quiet room. “I thought I’d made it obvious.”
Lin Xilei tilted her head, puzzled. “What?”
“My love for you.”
He looked at her as he spoke, then set his ceramic cup on the table. The clink of cup against tabletop was like a pebble tossed into water, sending gentle ripples across the surface.
Zhou Yanzhi had long since grown dissatisfied with their superficial relationship as fiancés.
He didn’t know when it had started. Maybe the first time he saw her practicing dance with such focus, maybe during one of the many times they were alone together, or perhaps even earlier...
More than once, he’d wanted to tear through the thin shell of their “roommate relationship.”
He would seep into her life little by little, like water flowing over pebbles, silently and inescapably.
Until she grew used to his presence, his closeness, and... the way he had eyes only for her.
