Into the Nest

“Nestling’s cry” originally refers to the pure chirping of a young bird breaking out of its shell, the most authentic beginning of life. I prefer to believe it is like the “music of nature” described by Zhuangzi in “On the Equality of Things”: a sound made not to please anyone, but simply the most natural expression of life itself.

Yet in the story of Into the Nest, this “music of nature” is being devoured.

The young Chu He possesses the forbidden art Dragon-Devouring Scripture. He sets out on a path of devouring all things and seeking immortality. He devours cultivators, sects, and gods, believing he is composing the thunderous music of his own destiny. Until he reaches the pinnacle of power and personally brings about the death of this world’s last guardian.

Only then does he realize that he was never the fledgling that sang the first note.

He is the demonic claw that crushes every egg and silences all creation.

When nature’s music falls silent, can civilization’s final cry of grief find a new echo in the endless void?
