Everyone at Xinghua High knew Cheng Yi, the rich kid with the title of “school bully.” His uniform was always missing two buttons, and he had a careless look in his eyes, yet his roguishly handsome face was enough to make girls go out of their way to bring him drinks.
Then transfer student Lin Xi arrived. Half Korean and half Chinese, she stood in a corner of the playground with a guitar in her arms. Her voice, singing in Korean and Chinese, was as clear as shards of ice, and it caught the attention of Cheng Yi just as he was sneaking over the wall to skip class.
“Hey, mixed-blood,” he said, raising an eyebrow around his lollipop. “Sing that again, and I’ll buy you milk tea for the whole month.”
Lin Xi tightened her fingers around the strings. “I don’t sell my songs to thugs.”
Later, someone spotted Cheng Yi cornering Lin Xi by the back door of the music room. His uniform jacket covered her guitar, and his voice was softer than they had ever heard it: “Then how about I buy your songs for the rest of my life?”
