The story takes place in Linjiang, a coastal city in southern China where glittering commercial districts stand alongside old, narrow alleys. The city seems peaceful on the surface, but undercurrents run deep. Behind its facade lie secret dealings among wealthy, powerful families and the struggles of ordinary people trying to get by. Abandoned factories and a century-old orphanage, among other places that hold the city's memories, often become breeding grounds for crime. The police force has a special cases unit dedicated to major, difficult investigations. The team that Su Yan and Lu Chen belong to is one such unit. Its members each have their own strengths: a technically skilled cybercrime officer, a seasoned forensic pathologist, and a criminal investigator adept at interrogation. Together, they form an efficient team that works seamlessly to solve cases.
