Journeying 90,000 Miles East

In the thirty-six-thousandth year of the Immortal Era, Lu Ji Ge, a former Heaven-Patrolling Envoy, became the Immortal Court's most wanted criminal. After obtaining the ancient spirit ship Wavebreaker, he was stranded in the vast, boundless eastern forbidden realm: the Ninefold Sea Abyss. There is no east, west, north, or south here, only a bizarre underwater world where each layer below is more perilous than the one above.

A band of outlaws unwelcome in the world gathers aboard his ship: Ao Xing Yao, a dragon princess who ran away from home and knows nothing of the ways of the world; Old Iron Hammer, a hot-tempered master shipwright whose body is connected to the ship; and Bai Xiao Qi, an orphan from a sea mirage who can sense ocean currents and dreams of finding the Island of Eternity.

In pursuit of the legendary mystery of the Return to Ruins, they sail the Wavebreaker and navigate between the sanctimonious Immortal Court, the Four Seas Dragon Palaces, riven by endless infighting, the seventy-two demon islands where the strong prey on the weak, and the Return to Ruins Cult, which worships annihilation. They outwit immortal islands overseas, battle giant beasts of the abyss, and explore forbidden grounds in the Dragon Palaces, gradually uncovering the truth behind the ancient war in which the gods fell, as well as the dark secrets the Immortal Court is desperate to conceal.

This is a voyage with no turning back. Ahead lies the Eye of the Return to Ruins, which devours all things; behind them stretch the vast Nine Seas, riddled with snares. How will Lu Ji Ge use his irreverent wit to forge a path to ultimate transcendence through these raging seas, for every soul in search of freedom?
