In the steel city "New Babel" wrapped in giant steam and precision gears, human faith and civilization are built on a perpetually moving core called the "Holy Father's Furnace." People praise steam, praise gears, and treat every roar of a piston as the breath of a god.
However, deep in this city with distinct classes and shrouded in eternal fog, the truth is far crueler than cold steel. The so-called "spirit-ether" is not only the energy that drives the entire city, but also the whispers from the indescribable existence beyond the stars. What humans call "gods" are nothing more than dreamy projections of sleeping beings in the abyss.
Yelan, an orphan living in the "furnace area" at the bottom of the city, is a humble "gear repairman". He was born with the ability to hear the whine coming from the depths of the machine that does not belong to the physical world. During a routine maintenance, he accidentally touched an "Eye of the Mad God" that was forgotten in the core machine. From then on, he was involved in a predestined reincarnation.
Ancient prophecies, crazy knowledge, mysterious investigators from the upper "sky dome area", and those aberrant monsters made of flesh and brass crawling in the shadows... Yelan discovered that the entire New Babel city itself was a huge living altar, and the fate of every citizen was just an insignificant procedure in the sacrificial ceremony.
What he has to fight is not mortals or monsters, but a precise script called "destiny" that has already been written by "gods". What he has to do is to find a gap in this eternally rotating gear of fate that can move the entire universe, even if it costs his own reason and existence.
