In the city of eternal night "Ulbis", the forest of brass and steel blocks the sky, and the roar of steam and gears is the only pulse of civilization. Here, alchemy intersects with mechanical engineering, and lurking beneath the city is an ancient nightmare colder than steel and hotter than steam.
Ye Linchen, a skilled watchmaker, lives at the bottom of the city, running around for his sister who suffers from a mysterious "smart syndrome". His hands can repair the most sophisticated machinery, but he cannot prevent his sister's body from gradually turning into crystals and gears.
By chance, he came into contact with a pocket watch from "outside history". When he repaired this timepiece that should not exist, crazy murmurs began to echo in his ears, and non-Euclidean geometric illusions invaded reality. He glimpsed the true fabric of the world—a vast, living machine of flesh and brass of which humans were but quivering dust.
He was drawn into a vortex of destiny that spanned thousands of years, became the successor of an ancient covenant, and was forced to choose between the "Clockkeeper" and the "Awakener". The gears and wrenches in hand not only have to fight against those mechanical behemoths driven by brass and steam, but also face the Old Ones from beyond the star sea, whose mere gaze is enough to make people's minds collapse.
When the pendulum of fate begins to swing and the hands of time point to the end, Ye Linchen must make a choice: as an obedient gear, be crushed in the cold machine of the universe; or as a mortal, leveraging the lever of fate, fighting for a glimmer of dawn that does not belong to this world shrouded in shadows?
