Suolong Village is located in a deep mountain canyon, surrounded by water on three sides and backed by mountains on one side. The only external access is the old suspension bridge at the entrance of the village. Every year, a "water sacrifice" ceremony is held on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month. Villagers say this is to appease the "dragon spirit" at the bottom of the river and ensure the peace of the village throughout the year. Most people in the village are surnamed Chen, and rarely intermarry with outsiders. They retain many obscure folk rules (such as not going near the river at night, not touching bronze vessels used for sacrifices, etc.).
