Resilient, stoic professor Yan Qiwu x sensitive, devoted ghost Yan Wenchu
A landslide during a torrential downpour robbed Yan Qiwu forever of the younger brother who had been his only family. Reduced to a walking corpse, he begins finding strange signs at home: a fountain pen moved, a book out of place. The person who should have been gone is clumsily making his presence known as a spirit.
When a shaman's talisman lets the brothers touch across the divide between life and death, Yan Qiwu loses himself completely. He hides the soul-calming talisman, alters the incantation for the departed, and even nourishes his brother's spirit with his own yang energy. Only when he is near death in a car accident does he discover that his brother nearly vanished forever saving him
“Brother, the time we stole... has to be paid back.”
Three years later, on a rainy night in a European town, he opens the door to a flower shop. The young man with a cinnabar mole at the corner of his eye smiles and offers him a rose. “Need a bouquet of ‘atonement,’ sir?”
