The Game of Power in Journey to the West

The pilgrimage to fetch the scriptures isn't a spiritual journey. It's a power-themed reality show jointly produced by the Three Realms.

The eighty-one tribulations are a script written in advance. Sun Wukong's golden cudgel is workplace injury equipment with KPIs attached. Tang Sanzang's compassion is reserved for demons with powerful connections. Zhu Bajie's greed is listed in the financial statements as “non-recurring losses.” Sha Wujing's skull necklace is a research byproduct outsourced by the underworld.

When gods and Buddhas turn “merit” into a billion-dollar IPO, when demons fight tooth and nail for a position that comes with a guaranteed “death,” and when the Tightening Spell is upgraded into a remotely detonated labor contract, the pilgrimage team finally understands: they're not retrieving true scriptures, but a blank PowerPoint full of empty promises.

Open The Power Games of Journey to the West and see how Sun Wukong goes from heaven's chosen enforcer to a professional scapegoat, how Tang Sanzang turns his holy monk persona into a traffic-generating business, and how the gods and Buddhas elegantly write “compassion” into their earn-out agreements.

Here, every tribulation is an expense report, and every “Amitabha” is a boost to the company's valuation.

When you finish reading, you'll realize that the biggest monster on the pilgrimage was never the Bull Demon King. It was the employment contract promising “enlightenment.”
