"Old Book of Tang" is the earliest extant biographical history book that systematically records the history of the Tang Dynasty. It has a total of 200 volumes, including 20 volumes of chronicles, 30 volumes of chronicles, and 150 volumes of biographies. Prime Minister Zhao Ying of the Five Dynasties and later Jin Dynasty was ordered to supervise its construction, and was finally submitted by Prime Minister Liu Yu and was listed as one of the "Twenty-Four Histories".
"Old Book of Tang" narrates historical facts in more detail and preserves rich historical materials, so it is valued by future generations. Although the contents of the Chronicles after Muzong of the Tang Dynasty are relatively complex, they also preserve a lot of valuable historical materials, such as the Pang Xun Uprising and the Huang Chao Uprising, which are recorded in more detail in the Chronicles of Yizong and Xizong. Since there is no biography of Pang Xun and a brief biography of Huang Chao in the biographies, these records are even more valuable. During the reigns of Emperor Zhaozong and Emperor Ai, the arrogance and domineering of the feudal towns were described in quite detail, reflecting some specific scenes when the Tang Dynasty fell. The book also contains many articles with historical value. These are documents that have a status in the history of Chinese thought.
