At “The Gatefront,” where the eternal wind howls, the veteran Henrik and his comrade Logan stand like two weathered boulders, guarding the Stormveil forces’ crumbling frontier. In his arms he carries a letter from his wife, Martha. His thoughts are with his son Thomas, who has just become a recruit, and with the golden four-leaf-clover charm Martha sewed by hand, a token carrying her prayers for his safety.
But the cruelty of the Lands Between never draws in its claws for the sake of a little hope. News of Thomas’s death struck like the first clap of thunder, splitting Henrik’s world apart. Then came the terrible news that his brother-in-law Finley had gone missing, and finally the devastating calamity brought by a Tarnished, which burned his homeland and his beloved to ashes.
Having lost every loved one one after another, Henrik’s soul was utterly consumed by endless grief and hatred. He abandoned his old loyalties and sense of order, embracing the tempting “blood of promise” offered by White Mask Varré and gripping the dangerous, uncanny “Reduvia” given to him by the wandering swordsman Yura. He became a demon living only for revenge and set out on a crimson path from which there was no turning back.
He pursues the black-haired Tarnished who took his son’s charm and is suspected of being the killer, swearing to use their blood to honor all the family he has lost. But in fate’s merciless mockery, the flames of vengeance ultimately burn what remains of his own soul.
