Hidden at the end of the bluestone alley in the old city is an inconspicuous "Soul-Dubbing Firm" - there is no earth-shattering demon-slaying here, only the most down-to-earth "finding love with old things": helping the soul-attached puppets find their families, unraveling the concerns across time and space for the pocket watches of the Republic of China, and adding a belated ending to the confession letters in the old textbooks...
The shop owner Ming Xiaonuan is a "pragmatic guy" who carries mahogany talismans and likes to grab instant noodles from ghosts. The only trouble is that his partner Shen Yan always uses the "ghost privilege" to eat and drink; and Shen Yan, as a translucent "wronged ghost", was the descendant of a clockmaker during his lifetime and became the "aura detector" of the office after his death. Coupled with a "non-staff" golden cat who can smell spiritual energy and loves to pick up old things, these three people (one ghost and one cat) have become the most special "regret restorer" in the old city.
Their investigations are never thrilling: it may be listening to the old man telling the story of the old biscuit box in the nursing home, or asking for an apology from the ghost of the bullying victim on campus, or following the footsteps of Briquettes and discovering the secret of the lovers from the Republic of China in the woodshed of the old house. Behind every old thing, there are unspoken longings - a child's dependence on grandma, a lover's agreement across life and death, and friends who didn't have time to say "I'm sorry".
