Douluo Dalu: The Aloof One Meets the Shadow

[Feel free to rate the story]

Ji Jiuning, heir to a modern martial arts family, spent fourteen years disguised as a boy. After an accident in her family’s secret chamber, she transmigrates to Douluo Dalu with her companion, a peregrine falcon named Ji. In this world where Martial Souls reign supreme, her aloof and solitary nature remains unchanged. She only wishes to make a quiet place for herself in this strange land with her internal martial arts and her sword, and to protect the one companion she has.

Yet fate brings the one person who will change her life into the mists of the Star Dou Great Forest.

There she meets Zhu Zhuqing, a girl pursued by destiny. Like a solitary cat prowling through the night, she is beautiful and cold, stubborn, and conceals both vulnerability and defiance in her eyes. In an instant, she pierces the frozen lake of Ji Jiuning’s heart. For the first time, Ji Jiuning feels the urge to draw close to someone and protect her.

“Do you need help?” A simple question begins a journey they will share.

With the skills of another world, Ji Jiuning becomes the steadfast shadow at Zhu Zhuqing’s back. She accompanies her to hunt for Soul Rings and helps her grow through hardship, using astonishing martial arts to save her whenever she is on the verge of death. The peregrine falcon Ji soars through the sky, their sharpest pair of eyes. Two equally cold hearts gradually draw closer through repeated brushes with death, giving each other warmth.

When Zhu Zhuqing’s past engagement follows her like a shadow and her family’s shackles tighten around her once more, Ji Jiuning resolutely steps in front of her. Her sword does not seek to rule the continent. It shines for one person alone.

“I’ll give her freedom.”
