Period: You're Beyond the Light-Years

[Period novel + pocket dimension]

On a snowy night in 1944, someone picked up an abandoned refugee baby. Three years later, she was born. Beside the rice-scented stove, when he was six, he protected her at three, and a copper button quietly pledged them to each other for life. At fifteen, in a phone booth on the snowy plains, he told her “I like you” for the first time, then slipped into her palm the key to an eleven-level pocket dimension, something only he knew about. Famine, military service, the border, relocation to the countryside... He bled for his country and earned distinction, while she filled army warehouses from afar, using her pocket dimension to save the troops. They seemed to have every advantage, but all they wanted was to protect each other. They had twins just a month after reuniting with their families; a denunciation letter was dealt with before it could do harm; they met secretly on rooftops during the turbulent years; and they made their first fortune when economic reforms began. Every storm turned sweet as long as they faced it side by side. From a snowy night to a meteor shower, over forty-eight years and countless light-years, he kept making his way toward her. She upgraded her pocket dimension to its highest level for one reason: to tell him beneath a ginkgo tree in 1992, “Beyond the light-years of all the years to come, there will only be you.”
