Military engineer Wu Lei traveled through the late Ming Dynasty to assist Yuan Chonghuan. He improved the red cannon and designed a hollow enemy platform, which severely damaged the Jin army in the Battle of Ningyuan. Later, he proposed the strategy of "garrisoning fields to raise troops" to alleviate the military food crisis and try to save the Ming Dynasty from crisis.
