Wei Tan is a top perfumer in the industry. He earned his doctorate at a young age, and charges as much as 30,000 yuan an hour for an appearance. With an exceptionally strong sense of boundaries, he hates everyone, including a man named Fang Zhe.
Fang Zhe is a criminal investigator with razor-sharp instincts. He remains skeptical of experts like Wei Tan, who spout all kinds of mysterious nonsense. A perennial overtime worker, his greatest wish is to bring to justice the criminal responsible for keeping him late.
The story begins when the deputy bureau chief insists on bringing in an expert. Years later, when Fang Zhe thinks back on it, he still feels that expert came along just to torment him. The expert himself neither confirms nor denies it.
