Introduction to Nine Nights to Live or Die
In 2149, nearly ten thousand ordinary people are dragged by the mysterious organization known as the Game Masters into an illusion of the mind called Nine Nights City. A deadly fight for survival begins, with a countdown of nine days and nights. Every day at midnight, a lethal rule takes effect: from “stare for more than five seconds and the Staring Ghost will gouge out your eyes” to “move away from the oxygen pillar and your body will explode.” Those who break the rules have their consciousness crushed and suffer brain death in the real world.
Former profiler Lu Chen enters this deadly game to find his missing sister. He joins forces with mechanical engineer Xia Ye, ex-soldier Qin Feng, forensic doctor Su Wan, and Lin Youyou, a high school student with the ability to foresee the future. They must fight off the rule-born entities hunting them while watching out for sabotage by undercover players. They venture across three game zones: snow-capped mountains, the deep sea, and the desert, all to collect nine fragments of the Game Key. But as they draw closer to the truth, they discover the game’s ultimate conspiracy: to cultivate human consciousness into the “perfect vessel.” In this desperate struggle, human nature’s capacity for both greed and protection, and the fight to hold on to shattered memories, become trials more deadly than the rules themselves.
