This story takes place in the Spirit and Illusion Realm. Lin Xiao, a modern soul, accidentally transmigrates there and becomes Ji Gu, the Heavenly Chosen Maiden of the Spirit Domain Sect, the focus of everyone's attention. Meanwhile, Li Mu, the young master of the Hehuan Sect, is alluringly beautiful and has long harbored a passionate love for Ji Gu. At the crucial moment when Ji Gu is striving to ascend and receive an opportunity from the Upper Realm, Li Mu casts a secret Hehuan Sect technique to force her to stay. At the time, Ji Gu is performing the Heart-Guarding Rite, which requires her to sever all desire and purify her meridians to succeed. But Li Mu loses control and barges in on her cultivation, causing Ji Gu's thousand years of painstaking effort to go to waste. Her chance to ascend is completely destroyed, and, through a twist of fate, the two end up entangled in a night together. With her dream of ascending shattered, Ji Gu (Lin Xiao) comes to hate Li Mu to the bone.
What began as a scheme and a fateful misunderstanding binds their destinies together against their will.
