She was originally the daughter of a Chinese jade merchant in the Hpakant mining area in Myanmar. When she was 19, her father was tortured to death for refusing to hand over the "Imperial Jade" vein to the Karen armed forces, and her mother was kidnapped. She fled with the jade vein map left by her father and accidentally entered the core area of the Golden Triangle.
