Common Gods of the Ming Dynasty

In Ming Dynasty Yuegang, left-behind child Li Fang and his grandmother, Lin Meiling, an expert in local customs and folk traditions, depend on each other. At first, he thinks visiting a godmother and honoring the spirits are just ordinary customs. But when letters from his parents overseas, on the continent of Fuli, summon eerie evil spirits, Li Fang realizes that ancient customs and taboos are the true laws of this world.

To find their family, the grandmother and grandson set sail and journey to the bizarre, fantastical land of Fuli. Here, a Shigandang stone can become a guardian deity, while evil thoughts can manifest as madness-inducing ghosts. Yet a cold power that calls itself the “Mandate of Heaven,” the Qin Tian Bureau, is systematically harvesting faith, intent on turning countless folk gods into puppets and establishing absolute order.

As catastrophe sweeps across the world, Grandma gives her life like a candle, lighting the way for her grandson to survive. Li Fang inherits her belief in protecting the simple, everyday lives of ordinary people and gathers all the oppressed spirits and folk gods. This struggle is not for supremacy, but to reclaim the freedom to live and thrive, and to worship one's ancestors.

On the Great Way, nothing can break the bonds of love. See how this young man carves out a path to heaven in a world teeming with folk gods.
