The Eye of the Typhoon

Three years ago, I was mugged. Liang Muqing took thirty-seven knife wounds for me. She survived, but was left mentally impaired.

To cure her, I went against my whole family's objections and tested the medicine on myself, leaving my legs disabled.

When treatment failed, I knelt at every temple in the city, begging for her to return to normal.

Everyone said we were true love.

Then, on the day the typhoon hit, the whole charade was exposed.

My half-brother barged in, his face full of defiance. “Bro, Muqing only pretended to be crazy because she couldn't stand having a cripple for a husband. She was never crazy at all!”

“Now I'm back. You useless cripple can get lost!”

I ignored him, staring fixedly at the woman behind him, who hadn't said a word.

Liang Muqing was no longer the simple-minded woman she'd once been. She took off her wedding ring and casually tossed it into the raging wind.

“Didn't you say you'd do anything for me? Go find the ring!”

“But with you in this state, I doubt you can even make it out the door!”

But later, when I really disappeared, Liang Muqing cried herself blind.
