In the morning mist of Lingxi Valley in the mortal realm, the spiritual meridians at Shen Qingci's fingertips suddenly turn black. This is the third fissure tainted by demonic energy. The corrupting spirit sickness has spread to the children of Xipo Village, while toward Mobei Ridge, the Immortal Realm's Enforcement Bureau has activated a refining array whose blinding golden light is draining the mortal realm's spiritual meridians until they are little more than withered threads.
As the hereditary guardian of the Shen clan's spiritual meridians, she clutches the fragmentary scroll her grandfather hid in the Lingxi Pendant before his death. Only then does she learn that the “Mystic Root” lies dormant beneath Lingxi Valley: the original source of the spiritual meridians, left behind at the birth of chaos. It can save the three realms from the depletion of their spiritual meridians, but it is also a bargaining chip in Venerable Immortal Lingxiao's bid for power and the elixir catalyst Demon Lord Liefentian needs to prolong his life.
She once raised her sword against Chixuan's Flame Demon Blade and saw the red-robed young lord extinguish earthfire in front of mortal children. She also once rescued the disgraced immortal official Yun Heng in a ruined temple and heard him say that low-ranking immortal attendants, deprived of spiritual energy by the monopolies of the Immortal Realm, were turning into vanishing points of light. When the Spirit-Eating Clan breaks free from its seal in the rift between the three realms, and the source of the spiritual meridians is on the verge of being consumed, refugees from the mortal realm, rebel clans from the demon realm, and exiled immortals from the Immortal Realm finally gather by the Lingxi River. Swearing an oath by the Mystic Root, they use the mortal realm's spirit, the Immortal Realm's qi, and the demon realm's fire to form a Spirit-Gathering Array that can turn the heavens and earth around.
Beneath the Azure Firmament, the world belongs neither to the domain of the Immortal Venerable nor the territory of the Demon Lord. It is a realm shared by all three worlds. When Shen Qingci awakens the Mystic Root with her bloodline, she understands that this scroll, "Record of the Mystic Root Beneath the Azure Firmament", was never about the survival of any single race. It is about immortals, demons, and humans breaking free of their obsessions, guarding the Mystic Root together, and protecting the spiritual meridians together to forge a path to survival.
