In Shanghai in 1930, the famous Kunqu opera star Shen Yuru was coveted by a gangster. Lu Jingming, a doctor studying abroad, met her in the theater and was attracted by her talent. Lu Jingming used his legal knowledge to help Shen Yuru get rid of gang entanglements, and the two participated in the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement together. As the Japanese invasion of China intensified, they protected the Kunqu opera troupe and turned it into a national salvation propaganda team to spread their anti-Japanese beliefs.
