Dust Wizard

Lorenz, an inn servant so hungry he stole food from wild dogs, never knew he could see “memory dust”: fragments of the past hidden in the air. They helped him dodge the cook's whip and spot the lies his guests told.

Then came the rainy night when he carried a message for a brooding swordsman. Bloodstains in the back courtyard sent him fleeing before dawn. Then, at an assassination during the carnival, the dying nobleman Kelvin pressed a bloodstained ring into his hand. “Find... them...”

With pursuers closing in and the nobleman's ring clenched in his fist, Lorenz suddenly became “Kelvin Hawk.”

How long can he keep up the act of a nobleman? Does the memory dust conceal the truth about his own origins? Surrounded by greedy nobles, a hypocritical Church, and sinister mages, the boy who once stole bread has no choice but to dance on the edge of a blade, relying on the streetwise cunning he learned at the bottom of society.

But no one knows that the dust others cannot see will eventually lead him through the thorns and onto a path of his own.
