Strange Tales from the Demon-Suppressing Office of Chang’an

Synopsis: In the prosperous Tang dynasty, demons and monsters flourish beneath Chang’an’s glittering surface. Yuchi Jin, a low-ranking constable who witnessed his comrades slaughtered by monsters on the northern frontier and survived by sheer luck, now bears the stain of infamy. He spends his days drifting through the streets, trying to numb himself. But a series of bizarre cases involving desiccated corpses brings the lingering shadows of evil in his eyes back into sharp focus. He is drawn into the Zhenyao Bureau, a mysterious government office tasked with handling the uncanny. Working alongside Pei Xuan, his cold-faced superior, and Su Qingshang, a learned female investigator, Yuchi Jin is forced to reclaim his instinct for hunting monsters. As the investigation deepens, he discovers that the murders are no isolated incidents. They point to a vast conspiracy aimed at overthrowing the Tang dynasty, and at its heart lies the very “thing” that took everything from him on the northern frontier. For the sake of revenge, and to protect the life and bustle of this city, Yuchi Jin must confront his inner demons and uncover the truth buried in the past.
