The story takes place in the Xuantian Sect, where the implementation of a “Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Assessment and Management System” has driven everyone into a cutthroat frenzy. While every disciple on the mountain fights desperately for points and rankings, the protagonist, Li Bei, is the sect's most out-of-place slacker: a retired Demon Lord who just wants to lie flat.
But then the newly arrived, fiercely competitive junior sister Su Miaomiao takes him on as a special project, using all sorts of outrageous methods, including blowing up his cave in the middle of the night, to drag him into the rat race. Unable to take it anymore, Li Beichen lets a trace of his Demon Lord pressure slip to scare her off, only to earn her fanatical admiration instead. Then the entire sect rushes in carrying banners, weeping and begging, “Senior Brother Demon Lord, the sect is doomed! Please get back to work and save the world!”
And so the strongest workaholic in history is forced back into employment. As he stares at the thermos in his hands, wondering how to gracefully turn down every overtime request, he must also deal with one headache after another, constantly bouncing between “I just want a quiet retirement” and “Oops, I saved the world again.”
Inspired by the popular “Di Hua” trope, where supporting characters let their imaginations run wild, and the “anti-rat-race” trend, this novel uses a lighthearted, humorous style to tell the bizarre retirement story of an invincible powerhouse.
