From the boundless sky and vast continents to the sweeping oceans and remote realms where light and shadow converge, strange creatures can be found everywhere. Some resemble ordinary animals, while others have bodies made of an assortment of elements and bizarre, dazzling forms.
They are collectively known as “Desolate Beasts.”
Humans live in this world, too. Perhaps in accordance with the laws of nature, most people can become “Spirit Masters” if they possess and awaken the talent known as “Spirit.”
Desolate Beasts that form spirit contracts with Spirit Masters are called “Spirit Companions.”
“If you want to find the truth, then go. Just know that the road is far longer and harder than you imagine, and the ending may not be what you hope for.”
“I know. The only right road is the one you walk yourself.”
Content warning: This isn’t a slice-of-life or wish-fulfillment story. It features plenty of combat, but no tournament-style battles, and includes graphic scenes. None of the characters have an easy path to growth.
Some aspects of the worldbuilding are inspired by The Charm of Soul Pets. This book is also a tribute to it.
