Guo Pu (276-324), courtesy name Jingchun, was born in Wenxi, Hedong (now part of Shanxi). He was a famous litterateur, exegesis, mathematician and Feng Shui scholar during the two Jin Dynasties. He was born in an official family and was erudite and talented. He was not only proficient in classics, history, and ancient Chinese characters, but was also well versed in the art of yin and yang calendars and divination. In his early years, he moved south to Jiangdong to avoid the Yongjia Rebellion. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, he successively held the positions of Zuo Lang and Shangshu Lang. He was famous for his literary talent and mathematical ability. He once wrote "Nanjiao Fu" to praise the founding of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and he also performed divination for powerful ministers such as Wang Dao and others many times.
Guo Pu has made outstanding academic achievements. His works such as "Erya Commentary", "Dialect Commentary" and "Shan Hai Jing Commentary" have detailed textual research and clear explanations. They are important documents for the study of ancient languages, mythology and geography. In terms of literature, his "Poetry on Immortals" uses the theme of "Immortals to Travel" to express real feelings, and was hailed by "Wen Xin Diao Long" as "the most important thing in ZTE". In addition, he was revered by later generations as the originator of Feng Shui. His "Burial Sutra" systematically proposed the concept of "Feng Shui" for the first time and established a far-reaching theoretical system of Feng Shui.
In 324 AD, Guo Pu was killed by Wang Dun because he firmly opposed the rebellion of the powerful minister Wang Dun and used divination to directly advise him. After the Wangdun Rebellion was settled, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hongnong Prefect, and was granted the posthumous title many times in later generations. Guo Pu was a scholar, a scribe, and an expert throughout his life. His life combined knowledge and mystery, loyalty and tragedy, and became a legendary cultural symbol in the Wei and Jin Dynasties.
