A little spider spirit x a young general, a slow-burn coming-of-age story
They first met during a famine, when an ignorant young boy caught her, a little spider believed to bring good luck.
He wanted her to divine his fortune? She could barely be bothered to complain, let alone move any of her eight legs.
They met again in a time of war. He really had become a young general, but now he was at death's door, carried by the people to her, their "false Bodhisattva," for help.
This time, she looked down at him for a long while, then finally divined an auspicious fate for him.
When he opened his eyes and saw her lowered gaze, she seemed exactly like the Bodhisattva in the temple.
Who cared whether she was real or not?
From the moment she pulled him back from the brink of death, she became his Bodhisattva, guiding him through the rest of his life.
